The Cider Shire offers the visitor many proposals in order to enjoy the visit as much as possible, dare yourself to discover them.

CIDER MUSEUM

Those who want to get into this museum, will leave knowing about the pollination process, the varieties of apple used in cider production, selection criterions as well as the procedures to obtain this drink. Likewise, the visitor will be able to enjoy the reconstructions which behold environments closely related to cider consumption, like the “Llagar”, “Chigre” or the bar, as well as traditional games and folklore.

Visiting hours:

Winter:
Tuesday to Friday from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00.
Saturdays from 11:00 to 15:00 and from 16:30 to 20:00
Sundays from 11:00 to 14:00.

Summer:
Tuesday from 12:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00
Wednesday to Saturday fron 11:00 to 14:00 and fron 16:00 to 20:00.
Sundays from 12:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00.

Summer visiting hours from June, 15th to September, 15th

No entrance allowed 30 min before closing time

During November, the museum closes for one week due to upkeep work.

Located in the heart of the Dinosaurs´ Coast, this museum, which resembles a tridactic trace, invites us to go deeply into Dinos’ life and habits.

“El Gaitero” permanent collection houses the history of this hundred-year-old enterprise and is shown through paintings, photographies, old manuscripts, advertising material, manufactured products as well as many peculiar objects regarding the trajectory of a worldwide kown firm due to its cider.

VILLAVICIOSA RIA INTERPRETATION CENTRE

It is located in the former “Casa de Camineros” on the road Villaviciosa-El Puntal.

We get to know the different aspects of the ria, through its information boards, like the tides, flora and fauna.

This 8 km fluvial valley Pratial Natural Reservation is considered as one the the biologic richest estuaries in Asturias.

ASTURCÓN HOUSE - MUSEUM

Integrated in a rural turism nucleus where the visitor will be able to discover the history of the legendary Asturian horse: the Asturcón. The building also houses an exhibition about the Asturcón’s origin, characteristics, myths and legends as well as the ethnographic traditions in regards to its breeding. The itinerary is formed by the permanent exhibition hall and 1 hour walk around the country estate where you will be able to watch different breeds in danger of dying out like the Asturcón, xaldas sheep and “pitas pintas” (variety of hens).

SAN SALVADOR DE VALDEDIOS

Located in the priviledge setting of Boiges Valley, it was chosen by the Asturian king Alfonso III as a retreat place where in the IX century a worship place, consecrated to San salvador, was built. This sacred place is nowadays one of the jewels of the Asturian prerromanesque, declared as Patrimony of the Humanity, by the UNESCO, in 1985.

RURAL SCHOOL MUSEUM

Located in the oldest school of the municipality, it was built in 1908 with capacity for 120 students as well as house for the teachers. The visitor will be involved in such an atmosphere that will make him/her feel transported to another time. Through a great collection of school furniture and materials dated from 1911 till 1970, a reliable memory of a very defferent conception of the present teaching is offered to the visitor together with a chronological view of the Education History in Asturias. You will also get a wide vision of the teachers and students’ way of life in the rural environment. This museum belongs to the Ethnographic Museums Net of Asturias.
